Terraformation and Government of Cameroon Sign Milestone Agreement to Restore 14,000 Hectares of Congo Rainforest
Yaoundé, Cameroon, (November 19, 2025) — Terraformation today announced a major milestone for its large-scale reforestation initiative in Cameroon. The Iroko Restoration Project - Cameroon has received both a Letter of Approval from the Interministerial Review Committee and a Letter of Endorsement from the Ministry of Environment, reflecting strong national commitment to advancing climate resilience, biodiversity protection, and community prosperity in one of the most important ecosystems on planet
These approvals represent a significant step forward in aligning the project with Cameroon’s climate and conservation priorities. The government’s approval also clears the path for registration on the country’s official carbon registry, creating a foundation for long-term accountability, transparency, and investment.
Restoring Forests, Empowering Communities
The Iroko Restoration Project, legally registered under the name “Augmentation des stocks carbone par la reforestation dans les Forêts Communales de Ndélélé et de Bétaré-Oya,” will plant 15 million trees across 28 species to restore degraded rainforest. Once complete, it is expected to enhance carbon stocks, strengthen biodiversity corridors, and generate sustainable livelihoods for local communities through long-term forestry management, seed collection, restoration training, and support for a new cacao agroforestry cooperative.
With these approvals secured, Terraformation and its partners—Centre Technique de la Forêt Communale (CTFC) and Iroko Analytics—will finalize and submit the project document plan to the Ministry of Environment. This step will initiate the review process leading to a formal Memorandum of Understanding with the Ministry and official listing on Cameroon’s national carbon registry. The project will also be submitted for certification under Verra, a leading global carbon standards body.
