Johannes Seidel - Director of Hawaiʻi Forestry Operations
What do you love most about your work?
“Around 2015, I decided to dedicate my life’s work to the fight against climate change.
I am most passionate about the diversity of Terraformation. Just like the forests we plant, our team comes from all walks of life and corners of the world.
What unites us is the desire to become good ancestors, which is one of our company values. Diversity makes us strong, smart, resilient and successful.
I am convinced that even though we are taking the hard way of addressing the bottlenecks to native forest restoration from all angles, we will be successful.”
What is a message about native reforestation and climate change solutions you have for others?
"We want to take our work to scale and sometimes that requires making difficult choices and taking risks.
For me, it was the move to a different country: leaving everything behind that I have built and valued for about 35 years of my life.
Addressing climate change is somewhat similar: we might not have all the solutions worked out in detail to know exactly what the future holds, but we are running out of time to sequester carbon and bring global temperatures back down.
Therefore, we need to take risk and get started making a difference so we have a chance.
I feel like we are doing this here at Terraformation. I can not think of anything else that would be a better way to spend my time.”
