at Hawai’i Island Seed Bank
The Hawai’i Island Seed Bank operates in partnership with Terraformation.
Our Pacific Flight site houses a seed freezing facility which is owned by the seed bank, stocked with seed collections from the foundational tree of Hawai’i, the Ohia tree (Metrosideros polymorpha). Storing seed collections at Terraformation’s off-grid facility with triple electrical power redundancy protects the seed bank from temperature fluctuations and power outages which might cause seeds to degrade and die.
